Who is Catholic Centre for Justice Development and Peace?

The Catholic Centre for Justice Development and Peace, CCJDP, was established by the Zambia Episcopal Conference (ZEC), the highest policy making body of the Catholic Church in Zambia. CCJDP is a faith-based organisation and inspired by gospel values and the social teaching of the church.

What does Catholic Centre for Justice Development and Peace stand for?

The vision of CCJDP a society where every person is free to fully attain integral human development and live in harmony. This is the reason why it promotes integral human development, economic justice, social justice, human dignity and empowerment of the less privileged in society through conscientisation, advocacy, research and training, and institutional strengthening.

In order to achieve its mission, CCJDP focuses on governance, food sovereignty, poverty, HIV/AIDS, spirituality and capacity development. Under these themes CCJDP seeks to:

  • empower communities in the dioceses to actively engage in their development and demand responsive governance leading to greater accountability and service delivery
  • increase community capacities to have access to and control over food needs
  • empower communities in Dioceses to be able to challenge attitudes, systems and institutions, which are impoverishing them to attain sustainable livelihoods
  • increase participation of Christians in issues of social justice to enhance integral Evangelism
  • increase social justice in the area of HIV/AIDS among the communities in the dioceses
  • enhance organisational capacity to deliver quality services to all the Dioceses and wider society.

There are 7 core programmes assist to CCJDP to achieve its objectives:

  • Gender and HIV/AIDS

What does Catholic Centre for Justice Development and Peace do?

Within the Economic Justice Programme, CCJDP promotes economic justice for the poor, distribute economic justice arising from the implementation of national and international policies. The daily activities involve:
  • gathering information from local people in order to affect economic justice
  • building capacity for local people to affect economic justice
  • lobbying nationally and internationally for just economic policies
  • promoting and understanding of economic justice within the church and wider society
  • strengthening the capacity of the programme to respond to its mandate.

Catholic Centre for Justice Development and Peace-NiZA partnership

CCJDP’s activities focus on acquiring more knowledge on NePAD, its impact on Zambia and how to participate in it. Also, it disseminates basic information on NePAD through workshops.
