Abstract This report reviews the trends in food security since August/September 2002. The situation has deteriorated in all parts of the country. With people's coping capacities diminishing, an anticipated below normal harvest for the coming season, and the rapid economic decline, it is advised to prepare for serious and widespread food insecurity for the coming year 2003/2004. It is also estimated by end-2002 that "an additional 551,000" farm workers and their family members had been displaced after the farm acquisitions intensified in August 2002.
