Samenvatting The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) is a two part summit, the first part having been held in Geneva, 10-12 December 2003, and the second part scheduled to be held in Tunis in November 1995. The summit was convened by the ITU, the International Telecommunication Union, a UN body. This report records some of the lobbying activities and experiences of NiZA's partners of the Media Programme in the run-up to and during WSIS Geneva. Southern African civil society concentrated, amongst other things, on the inclusion of Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (on freedom of expression), and the African Charter on Broadcasting (on free and plural media), Windhoek, Namibia 2001.
