Samenvatting Canada has not done enough to help resolve the crisis in Zimbabwe, according to this report of a Canadian fact-finding mission, including representatives from Amnesty International, the Anglican, Presbyterian, United churches, the Canadian Bar Association (International Development Committee), the United Steelworkers and the Canadian Journalists for Free Expression. Zimbabwean civil society organisations have reported many instances of state persecution. Many Zimbabweans have spoken out against the violence, corruption and mismanagement in their midst. Some have been imprisoned, tortured or murdered for their efforts. Many others have been forced into exile, either out of fear for their lives, or in an effort to feed their families. Still others have remained in Zimbabwe, risking their lives to serve as witnesses to justice, democracy and human rights. Meanwhile the economy has contracted by 47% during the past six years and the country continues to suffer from food shortages.
