This paper reviews the concept of corporate social responsibility as it applies to the diamond industry, concluding that corporate codes which rely on voluntary guidelines are completely inadequate. The Kimberley Process, the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises and the UN Expert Panel on the Congo provide case studies in this discussion of corporate social responsibility.
