Samenvatting |
A report on the impacts of gold mining in developing countries, with case studies from Honduras and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Gold has done little to reduce poverty in developing countries. Gold-mining can cause lasting damage to communities and to the environment. It has also been closely linked to conflict. Mineral-dependent developing countries are more likely to suffer from corruption and poor governance. Looking at case studies in Honduras and the DRC in the gold-rich area of Mongbwalu in Ituri district where the South African mining company AngloGold Ashanti is active, this report looks at what needs to change to turn gold into a blessing – not a curse – for the people of the developing world.www.cafod.org.uk |
