NiZA and the media in Congo NiZA promotes the process of democratisation in southern Africa by supporting the media and by exchanging ideas and experiences with regard to freedom of the press.
The media plays a key role in bringing about social and political change. The media helps in the fight against poverty and injustice in the Southern African region. Independent media offer citizens access to information and the opportunity to express their opinions.
Countries that have a free media have better control of corruption and see more public funding going toward developing the country.

In Congo, NiZA has cooperated with its partner organisations to formulate the following important objectives:
- To support change in media legislation and policy by supporting professional, lobby and advocacy organisations;
- To promote a better exchange and flow of information between media in the provinces and media in Kinshasa by supporting production, distribution and the exchange of information;
- To promote increased professionalism in the media by supporting media training organisations. For example, in the fields of technical and ICT skills, reporting, research techniques and investigatory journalism, and covering elections.

Journaliste en Danger (JED) represents the interests of journalists and works to increase the freedom of expression in the Democratic Republic of Congo and other countries in French-speaking central Africa.
Radio Maendeleo is a community radio station in Bukavu, in the east of Congo.
Union Nationale de la Presse du Congo (UNPC) is a national interest group for journalists and other professionals working in the media sector.
One of the projects is intending in part to build networks between different radio stations. One central station acts as a source of knowledge, expertise and information, and that is Radio Mandaleo for East Congo.
NiZA supports journalism training courses, among other activities.
