| Abstract |
Basic food stuffs such as maize, salt, milk, bread, beef and farm produce are generally available in formal and informal markets throughout the country. However staple cereals from last year's harvest are running out and shortages will become increasingly acute. The situation is already critical in the traditional grain deficit areas of Matebeleland and areas that suffered poor harvests last agricultural season.
