Abstract |
This conference report assesses three inititiatives to achieve corporate social responsibility: (1) the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights; (2) the Draft Norms and Responsibilities of Transnational Corporations and other Business Enterprises with regard to Human Rights (UN Sub-Commission on the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights); (3) the May 2002 European Parliament resolution on the Commission Green Paper on Promoting a European Framework for Corporate Social Responsiblity. This report looks at their relevance in three cases of internal conflict in Africa: oil exploitation in Sudan, Diamond exploitation in the DRC, and tropical wood exploitation in Liberia. |
