Economic Empowerment Programme

NiZA's Economy Programme focuses on the following themes:

  • Fatal Transactions: This is an international campaign about stopping raw material trade, used to finance wars and conflicts. Natural resources of African countries must be used for reconstruction and development.
  • Trade Relations: Trade relations between European countries and countries of Southern Africa are of great importance for economic development in the region.
  • Corporate Social Responsibility: Western and African companies can play an important role in the development of a sustainable and equitable economy in Southern Africa provided this is done in a sustainable manner.
  • NePAD: The New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NePAD) is an initiative of African government leaders. The proposals for better economic cooperation through NePAD must lead to sustainable growth and development of African countries.
  • Debt: The poorest countries in Southern Africa are burdened by bilateral debts. This includes apartheid-related debts.

The Economy Programme facilitates its partners in southern Africa. Being strong in capacity building and in lobbying the European structures, NiZA is their partner in the North.
