Economic development that is sustainable and equitable is necessary to reduce poverty in Southern Africa and make democratisation possible. NiZA’s Economic Empowerment Programme works to this end together with its partner organisations in Southern Africa and Europe.
The Economic Programme is one of the three programmes of NiZA. The policy is aimed at increasing the profile and capacity of partner organisations in Southern Africa. NiZA works together with organisations that are active in the following fields:
Themes
Region
The Economic Programme aims at supporting partner organisations in the countries of the Southern African Development Community (SADC): Angola, Botswana, DR Congo, Lesotho, Namibia, Malawi, Mozambique, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania and Zambia.
Activities
The themes of the Economic Programme are in different phases of development. With the Fatal Transactions campaign, a great deal of experience has been gained so far through lobbying and activism against inequitable trade relations. This experience serves as a basis for the themes Trade Relations and Corporate Social Responsibility. NiZA and its partners are developing long term sector plans on the themes NePAD and CSR.
